Plaque Unveiling Commemorating Protected Red Oak
Celebrated every April 22, Earth Day is the largest, most celebrated environmental event worldwide. More than 6 million Canadians join 1 billion people in over 170 countries in staging events and projects to address local environmental issues. On Earth Day, the City of Niagara Falls, along with Mayor Jim Diodati and the Park in the City Committee, were at 6181 Corwin Avenue, where they conducted a plaque unveiling to celebrate the protection and preservation of a 200-year-old red oak tree. The tree is now protected under the Niagara Region Tree and Forest Conservation by-law, the second tree in Niagara Falls to be protected under this by-law. The first tree is located at Claire Crescent.
